Platformer Tutorial Bugs

superhuman 4 years ago updated by Lazlo Bonin (Lead Developer) 4 years ago 5

Hey just wanted to use this thread to point out a few bugs/notes I've run across in the platformer tutorial using Unity 2017.1.1. Thanks for the help.

1.Cant add elements in graph if not zoomed all the way in

2. Tutorial should note that it was created with Human Naming scheme instead of Programmer Naming (couldn't do anything when using programmer naming)

3. In Chapter 2: Character Controller, Part 3 there is a bug when adding Speed float variable. After adding and pressing play, the box goes red in graph and variable disappears from variables box. I can't proceed tutorial from here.

Just realized this is a one man project. Cheers to you my dude it's a hell of an undertaking. You can definitely change the game with this. I have little programming experience so I will be a good guinea pig for the noob side of things. Keep working hard!

*Update* for Bug #3 I was able to get movement working by adding Speed variable to Player from inspector. Bug is isolated to creating variables from variables window. It's very impressive to see the whole machine up and running. I like that the graph shows live calculations for everything.

Hi Superhuman, welcome to the community! :)

Thanks for the report & the encouragement.

Regarding the bugs:

  1. This is a well known issue, which I'm hoping to fix in the next version. It's complicated because it's related to a Unity bug with the GUI matrix.
  2. I'll update it to mention that!
  3. I've heard another report of that, but I haven't been able to reproduce it consistently. I'll give it another look when I get a chance.

Added a mention in the Project setup for #2.

Created a separate topic for #3:

Variables set from the variable window sometimes reset
