Kinematic character controller

I am trying to build a kinematic character controller using unitys Character Controller with "move" (not simple move) similar this example, but without the Z axis: 


I have tried to implement this in a number of ways, but I always get wonky gravity. Either it is floaty, to hard etc. and nothing like the example script. The input values are exactly the same and movement left and right works fine. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can approach this?

I'm actually trying to do the same. Did you ever get a proper graph to work?

I'm using a kinematic controller too, when I put (GET GRAVITY) into vectorY it does ALL the work for downward gravity, no rigid body needed.
