Grid based movement

I'm looking for some help on grid based movement, think RPG Maker style, Old Final Fantasy and such.

As far as I understand, input should be with get axis multiplied by grid size, so every step should transform the position to player position plus grid size, but in a smooth way (and trigger the relevant animation).

I did something similar in Playmaker for a grimrock-style fps movement, but no clue how to do it in Bolt.
