Ability to disable a flow or state machine group of nodes.

It would useful to have a convienet way to disable a flow or state machine group of nodes when you have several in one machine doing different things other than removing connections when doing some testing. 

Maybe, grouped, or by highlighting a group, it could be force disabled so as not to throw errors or otherwise impact play mode while you tinker.

I'm going to decline this suggestion for the moment.

Disabling part of a graph conditionally requires a lot of overhead and extra logic, because each unit acts differently. The time it would take to implement greatly outweighs the benefits in this case. However, you can keep an eye on the suggestion for breakpoints, which may help you with debugging:
