Poor performance when sidebar is displayed

Arron Washington 2 years ago updated by Lazlo Bonin (Lead Developer) 2 years ago 5

When the graph editor is maximized by double clicking the background, there's latency related to the number of nodes on screen when in full screen mode. However, the graph is fine when it's docked.

Here's my graph at 0.4x zoom:

If I pop out the graph as a free floating window the speed is buttery smooth as well. However, if I resize the graph so that the graph inspector sidebar becomes visible, performance suddenly tanks.

I don't recall this being an issue in 1.3... but I wasn't using the expanded view as often as I am now.

That seems to imply the performance hit is coming from the graph sidebar, not the maximization itself, do I understand that correctly?

I'll have to look into it! In the mean time, you can increase the sidebar display threshold in Tools/Ludiq/Configuration so that it doesn't show up when maximized.

You understand it correctly.

Working on Fix

Thanks for the report, will investigate tomorrow. I want nothing less than buttery smooth FPS in the editor! ;)

Hi Arron, sorry for the late reply on this.

I deep profiled my editor with a large graph alternating between shown and hidden sidebar in full-screen view. However I haven't been able to notice a significant performance difference (only about ~5% to draw the variables inspector).

Do you have any more specific condition that triggers the sudden drop in performance?
