Preview Icon Display

happyuturn 1 week ago updated by Lazlo Bonin (Lead Developer) 21 minutes ago 1

Hi, please see attached. It looks like the preview icons are rendering with a dark background - possibly assuming I'm in dark mode. I know there's a way to turn this off completely, is there a switch somewhere to make sure the backgrounds are the right color for the editor? Or anything else I can do so this feature renders as expected? If it's a bg image that combines with the asset preview I can try swapping it out for a custom one...

thank you

Hi Happyuturn,

Currently, Peek uses the built-in Unity preview rendering API for its previews.

This API does not let us choose the background color for the render. The dark gray is the only available mode.

Also, you might notice the objects are too dimly lit. After some perusing in the reference source, I noticed that for whatever reason, they use a low-intensity (0.5) light for the previews.

For these reasons and for performance, I plan to rewrite the preview rendering myself and get better results, but that's a long endeavour that's not a priority at the time being, unfortunately. I hope you understand and thank you for your patience.
